Welcome to day 11 of our 12 Modern Lamps of Christmas. Today I have a real goody for you, a light that is both an icon of modern design and an affordable gift. Before that, though, be sure to take a look at Day 1 for the rules of the 12 Modern Lamps list. And perhaps browse through the other lamps I’ve chosen over the past ten days for other gift ideas.
Then come on back and meet lamp number 11:
You’ve seen it all over the place, that iconic table lamp with the distinctive flared shade and adjustable cantilevered base. On the sets of many of your favorite TV shows and movies, it’s the Tolomeo, a design that has become a staple of modern desktops since it was designed by Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina in 1987. This design has since grown to include a variety of table lamps, floor lamps, wall lights, ceiling lights and now, with the Tolomeo Clip Spot, a petite clamp light.
The shade rotates up to 360 degrees and tilts for the perfect orientation of light, and the light switch is in easy reach on the base. It is made almost entirely out of matte anodized aluminum, a material that is somehow both sleek and soft.
Contemporary and oh so cute, this guy will make a great gift for anyone who loves great modern design and has a shelf (or a table or a headboard) to clip it to.
