The 12 Modern Lamps of Christmas 2012- Day 4

Welcome to Day 4 of the Lumens 12 Modern Lamps of Christmas. If you’re just joining us, be sure to read over Day 1 to find out what makes each of the 12 lamps featured in this year’s list the most giftable modern lights out there.

With that, on to our 4th modern lamp:

#4- Sticky Lamp by Droog

If there is one downside to Christmas morning, it would have to be the pile of wrapping paper, ribbons and plastic clamshell cases  that needs to be discarded. Recycling or re-using those first two are up to you, but designer Chris Kabel has taken it upon himself to take the clamshell out of the equation.

The Sticky Lamp takes PVC plastic that would normally be thrown away and uses it as a unique—and permanent—casing for the bulb within. What makes this design even cooler is that, while the case protects the bulb and lets it shine brightly in all directions, it also provides the bulb with a graphic, almost cartoon-like outline.

While the case is the most outstanding design feature, the Sticky Lamp actually gets its name from its unusual mounting. A self-adhesive sticker on the back makes it easy to stick Sticky on virtually any smooth surface. No tools needed, and no holes in the wall or ceiling.

One thing to keep in mind is that this adhesive is sensitive to extreme heat, so a low-heat, energy efficient fluorescent or LED bulb is required. So, to complete your Sticky gift all you need to do is throw (gently) a bulb in with it to let the recipient get right down to stickin’ it.
