The 12 Modern Lamps of Christmas 2012- Day 1
Welcome to Lumens 3rd Annual 12 Modern Lamps of Christmas!
Yes, it’s that time again. Today and for the next 11 days, we’ll be profiling the 12 coolest, quirkiest and most attention-grabbing lamps out there. These guys have personality and modern style to spare, making them the perfect gift for anyone on your list who loves unique modern design (and lighting). In order to qualify as the most giftable, these lamps also have to be portable and relatively easy to wrap, economical ($200 or less), and in stock and ready to arrive in plenty of time for holiday giving.
(If you’re curious about the previous years’ lists, be sure to check them out for even more gift ideas–most of the lamps on them are still available for purchase: The 12 Modern Lamps of Christmas 2011, or The 12 Modern Lamps of Christmas, the original list from 2010.)
With that out of the way, on to the good stuff. The 1st Modern Lamp of Christmas 2012 is:
Although the manufacturer is Fatboy, Edison the Petit is decidedly fat-free. It lives up to its name by being petite and perfectly proportioned, not to mention a truly brilliant little piece of design.
This is Fatboy’s first (and very successful, in my opinion) foray into lighting design. Best known as a maker of beanbag furniture, Fatboy designed Edison the Petit to complement their line of soft, comfy and durable pieces. As such, it replicates the form of a traditional table lamp with a single molded piece of soft-looking white polyethylene.
When it’s fully charged, Edison can be safely transported pretty much anywhere for up to 6 hours of illumination on its brightest setting. Turn the lamp on and off and adjust between high and low dimming by pulling on the red tag.
Edison the Petit Lamp makes the perfect gift for anyone who likes to entertain after dark—indoors or out—and who will like the idea of the lamp’s energy efficient and long-lasting LED technology as much as its friendly, modern design.
