Pantone’s Color of the Year: Green is Just the Thing
In 2013, it’s all about the Emerald–at least, according to color authority Pantone, who has declared this vivid green hue as the Color of the Year.
Pantone describes Emerald as, “Lively. Radiant. Lush. A color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being and harmony.” It’s a bit flashier than your standard green, ranging from dense shades to extravagant-feeling gem tones. It feels luxurious and lively, but not snobbish. For me, the first thing this shade of green brings to mind is Emerald City, the glitzy, richly hued capital of the Land of Oz. But the inspiration of Emerald seems to range anywhere from that majestic green to shades that have the slightest hints of blue, to stately true greens.
Picking a color to guide us through an entire year is no simple process–Pantone searches the globe for color influences, combing everything from entertainment, travel, technology, sports and more. The color then often influences a range of industries, from beauty and fashion to home decor to product packaging and graphic design.
