Mysteriously “Dressed” for the Occasion

2012 May 17

It takes panache and a certain “je ne sais quoi” to pull off a well-dressed table setting. For inspiration, I turn to Marcel Wanders and his famous Dressed collection. The contemporary collection includes everything from plates to champagne flutes, but there’s something more… something mysterious and sexy about this collection… like a saucy secret purposefully hidden from first glance. Look closely at the picture below before reading on… Can you tell what it is? No cheating!

What makes this collection unique is that most of the pieces feature a fascinating Baroque-inspired pattern only found on their underside and therefore kept as a surprise until one begins the meal and actually touches the decoration. It’s Wanders’ way of incorporating traditional design while actually veering away from tradition itself.

Click through this time lapse video of the collection’s introduction and … erm, aftermath… as the modern table setting unfolds and gaiety ensues. View photos and read more about the Alessi Dressed collection here. Bon appetit!
