Bright idea: A ginormous light
Everyone loves miniatures, right? Shrink something down to itty-bitty and suddenly it’s the cutest thing ever. But what about taking it in the other direction? A few of our favorite “normal”-sized lights have gone big—I mean, really big—and I have to say, these looks amped up to super-size status only add to their appeal. Here are a few of our favorites:
This Italian classic is found all over on desks, at bedsides, in reading nooks, etc., but turned up to be four times its usual size makes the Tolomeo design truly take over a room. At more than 8 feet tall, it makes the perfect overhead light for indoors and out. (Image via Contemporist)
I love the look of Cerno’s Silva Table Lamp at just 21 inches tall—clean, organic and totally unique. So bringing that design up to a towering 7 feet with the Silva Giant Floor Lamp turns the volume up on an already head-turning design. The wood stem is especially strong and mighty without being bulky.
Anglepoise Giant 1227
This beauty has all the features of George Carwardine’s original design—an aluminum base, castors for easy positioning, a bright and shiny finish—only it’s 3 times the size of a standard Anglepoise lamp at nearly 9 feet tall. Plus, it comes in fun colors like Cobalt Blue, Vermillion Orange, and Signal Red, adding a vibrant element to its already-showstopping looks.
Do you have a favorite floor lamp you’d like to see in jumbo size?
