Green Lighting for the Modern Leprechaun
Top ‘o the mornin’ to ya! Eirinn go Brach! They’re magically delicious! Wait… uh, ignore that last one. Needless to say, I’m getting carried away with St. Patrick’s Day this year, and there are so many fun green items to spotlight, it’s hard to know where to begin! Since there are a ton of great choices for green lighting, I decided to pick our top 5 bestsellers (with one bonus one) and show off our St. Patty’s Day spirit. If you’re not wearing green, you may want to pick one of these up before going out tonight and avoid any heckling from your friends!
Made of curved glass in several colors (green being my favorite), this pendant from EuroFase is definitely eye candy for the contemporary kitchen. Makes me want to bite into a ripe Granny Smith!
Love, love, LOVE this pendant from ET2 Lighting! A cylinder of blown glass polished to a high gloss means this baby glows with light AND style It’s easy to hang and looks great in just about every room, no matter the theme.
A funky fun piece perfect for the contemporary desk or bedside table, this table lamp from Lights Up! stands on a metal frame that seems to avoid taking up any space at all. Its fabric shade is printed on 100% recycled PET fabric made from plastic bottles—green in so many ways!
2. Candela Glow Colored Top by OXO (discontinued)
Talk about party lights! These candle color toppers make it easy to mix and match to create the perfect party atmosphere. They’re made of an impact resistant plastic that’s great for the outdoors, and with summer just around the corner (yay!), it’s time to start shining some light on those evening BBQs!
Designed by Ferruccio Laviani, the FLY Suspension does kind of look like it’s flying. The transparency of this partial bubble gives it an honest and humble aspect, fun and fresh, yet satisfyingly sophisticated for the contemporary space. And all Kartell products are on promotion through March 31st–purchase $300 or more of cool Kartell items and get a free Dune Tray! I love good deals…
Finally, I mentioned there would be a bonus “green” product for your enjoyment, and this is one I’m really excited about.
Environmentally green, the Cubo uses an LED lamp and won the LED Award for Best Luminare for Public Use Interior (2010), making it a great option in my design book. Made by our friends at Cerno, this wall lamp is both sconce and reading light in one. Turn it on and it’s a sconce; extend the arm and it’s a reading light! There’s a full range dimmer located on the walnut support, hard to find in LED fixtures, and its aluminum head has a special heat dispersing design so the lamp stays cool to the touch. If this is where green lighting is going, I’m never looking back!
Until we meet again–may the road rise up to meet you, and may the wind be always at your back. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
