From Russia With Love (of Modern Design)

In the heart of Moscow, architect Alexey Nikolashina has created a wonderfully cosmopolitan living space. The apartment pictured here is clean yet comfortable, with an overall white and cream color palette dramatically punctuated by darker accents of brown and black.

As much as we love great decorative lighting design, we are equally impressed by creative lighting effects. This living room features both, including an iconic Arco Floor Lamp by Flos and eye-catching uplight and downlight above and below the floating fireplace/entertainment center (an effect that you could easily duplicate with strategically placed spots or rope lights).

Moving into the kitchen, the white counters and cabinetry are complemented by black chairs, appliances and pendant lights. As with the entertainment center, bright uplight above the cabinets warms up the space. You can copy the look of the black pendants with the Touch Down Pendant by Molto Luce:

Finally, in the dining room, a large Nur Gloss Pendant by Artemide carries through the smooth lines and white tone of the Saarinen Tulip Table below:

As the Content Marketing Manager for YDesign Group, Nissa has been writing about lighting, furniture and decor for many years. Considering that there's always something new out there, she'll likely write about them for many years more. She loves all things modern design, especially those designs that reinterpret classic forms in cool, imaginative ways. If she had her way, she'd spend all her money on such pieces (and wine).
