Our favorite lighting, furniture and fans from the past year include imaginative looks from some of the best names in modern design. Here are a few of our favorite design picks from 2014.
Circa Pendant by Pablo Designs
Unidentified lighting object. Designed by Pablo Studio for Pablo Designs and made available in 2014, the Circa Pendant is a contemporary, yet unconventional pendant design that you would not necessarily think of when you think of a ceiling light. Circa’s super-thin LED flat-panel saucer offers a consistent output of warm, even glare-free illumination that has proven to be perfect in commercial spaces as well as living rooms and kitchens of modern homes. Circa is available in either a white or graphite finish and offers an adjustable suspension length.
Not only is Pablo Designs a favorite of the Lumens team, but they are also a local studio operating out of San Francisco who is loved by the city’s official tourism association, San Francisco Travel. They love Pablo Designs so much that in August 2014, they furnished their entire office with the Circa Pendant (pictured below).
What Shoppers Are Saying About the Circa Pendant:
Wonderful minimalism. A disk of light hovers over my conference table without calling attention to the actual fixture.
This pendant is an excellent task light for my application, both form and function. I am very happy with this purchase.
Cage Suspension by Diesel for Foscarini
Underground in the real sense of the word, the Cage Suspension by Diesel for Foscarini was inspired by lamps used by miners and empowers any space with its industrial strength design. Its protective metal cage around the lamp’s shade not only helps secure the light fixture, but it is also an attractive design element that grew in popularity in 2014. Cage is available in two sizes and multiple finishes to accommodate your space.
S7 LED Floor Lamp by Structures
The S7 LED Floor Lamp by Structures was new to Lumens in 2014 and became an instant favorite.
Its patented composite body is at once flexible and rigid, resulting in a poseable silhouette that needs no tools to adjust. The S7 is the perfect floor light for smaller office spaces, living rooms and bedrooms.
S7 is available in white and titanium gray, black and titanium gray or black. Simply S7 into any wall outlet and adjust it as you see fit.
Ipparco Table Lamp from Artemide
Oh-so adjustable, the Ipparco Table Lamp from Artemide features a magnetic connector that enables its diffuser to be positioned not only anywhere on the fixture, but on any other metal surface within reach of the cord.
It also offers the ideal amount of light output with its ring of focused LED light that can easily be adjusted.
Designed by Neil Poulton and made available in 2014, Ipparco is modern task lighting at its finest.
Parallax Linear Suspension by Tech Lighting
Tech Lighting is a customer favorite at Lumens and with contemporary fixtures like the Parallax Linear Suspension, it’s easy to see why. The embodiment of futuristic functionality is found in the Parallax suspension as it features thirty tiny, high-impact LED diodes in a pattern reminiscent of the circuit board it was inspired by. At just over half an inch thick, Parallax is the perfect ceiling light for modern dining rooms, as kitchen island lighting or suspended in your office’s conference room.
Cornelia Chandelier by Bover
Asymmetric, adjustable, articulate. The Cornelia Chandelier from Spain’s modern lighting designer, Bover, is easily one of our favorite decorative chandeliers from 2014. Designed by Joanna Bover, Cornelia features exposed hardware that allows it to stand out as a mechanically decorative element in any commercial or residential space in which it is placed. It has 12 asymmetric light shades on two tiers of adjustable arms, offering an ideal amount of downward focused light that contrasts well with the fixture’s exposed chrome finished hardware.
Torsion Ceiling Fan by The Modern Fan Company
Crank it up! With a uniquely light-industrial design, the Torsion Ceiling Fan from Modern Fan Company features blades that split as they join its body like a huge wrench twisting on the head of an enormous bolt. With sleek, modern designs like the Torsion fan, it’s obvious why the Modern Fan is a favorite at Lumens. Torsion is available in a wide variety of finishes and control options, as well as light kit options.
Drop Chair from Fritz Hansen
The Drop Chair by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen was first introduced over fifty years ago and was re-introduced to the design world in July of 2014. It’s re-introduction excited many modern furniture design enthusiasts, including our friends at Design Milk – see Drop Chair Re-Introduced by Jaime Derringer. The re-introduced version of this iconic Scandinavian design is offered in its classic colors to complement any room it is placed in and it is available in a plastic version or upholstered version. Needless to say, Arne Jacobsen’s Drop Chair is a small side chair with with a big personality.
